Job Description:

The Medical Assistant provides clinical support, including initial preparation of the patient, assisting the provider during patient examinations, stocking and maintenance of exam rooms, maintenance of diagnostic equipment, charting, Spanish language interpretation and patient education.


1. Prepare exam rooms for patient examinations, ensuring that they are neat, clean and well stocked

2. Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the provider by completing medication reconciliation and obtaining and recording in the electronic medical record system the patient’s medical history, chief complaint, vital statistics and similar information

3. Collect urine, blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing

4. Provide Spanish-language interpretation for providers and nurses as needed

5. Operate electrocardiogram (EKG) or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests

6. Prepare and administer medications as directed by a provider

7. Provide information to patients regarding treatment procedures, medications, diets, physicians' instructions and preparation necessary for diagnostic tests, x-rays and laboratory examinations

8. Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies

9. Perform and document point-of-care equipment testing daily before beginning patient care

10. Keep patients’ personal health information confidential, discussing it only with other medical personnel who are involved in treating the patient

11. Maintain infection control checklist

12. Complete immunization records

13. Maintain basic life support certification



Experience and Skills:


1. High school diploma or GED

2. Successful completion of a medical assistant training program at an accredited institution

3. Basic life support certification

4. Six months of experience using Microsoft Office software

5. Six months of experience using electronic medical record software

6. Availability to work evenings until 9 p.m. and occasional Saturday mornings

7. Ability to travel independently between worksites when needed


1. Fluency in written and spoken English and spoken Spanish strongly preferred

2. Completion of an interpreter training course, certification by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters or certification by the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters strongly preferred
